THE SCIENCE BEHIND MEDITATION
The idea that meditation brings compassion, focus, and wisdom is thousands of years old, and recently has been validated by science. Using MRI scans, scientists at Harvard have a clearer understanding what happens in the brain when we meditate.
The region of the brain associated with stress appears to shrink, while areas associated with attention and concentration gets stronger. Many studies have shown that indeed meditation has not only a mental but a profound physiological effect on the body. Meditation can help reverse heart disease, reduce pain and enhance the body’s immune system, enabling it to better fight disease.
